چکیده
The new Australian orb-weaving spider genus Mangrovia in the family Araneidae Clerck, 1757 is described. It characterised by extreme sexual size-dimorphism (eSSD) with females (total length 8–10 mm) ca. 3 to 5 times larger than males (2.5–3 mm). Whilst shares informal ‘backobourkiine’ clade a single seta on male pedipalp patella, probably more closely related ‘zealaraneines’ or associated genera. In addition eSSD and patellar spine, distinct subterminal embolus branch males. includes two species: type species albida (L. Koch, 1871) comb. nov. (= Epeira fastidiosa Keyserling, 1887, syn. ) from Queensland occidentalis sp. Western Australia. Both are apparently coastal occur mangroves, but also riparian woodland. Spiders were found resting rolled-up leaves adjacent their orb-web.

The araneid spider genus Verrucosa McCook, 1888 is revised. Five of the seven previously known species, V. arenata (Walckenaer, 1841), V. lampra Soares & Camargo, 1948, V. meridionalis (Keyserling, 1892), V. undecimvariolata (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1889) and V. zebra (Keyserling, 1892), are redescribed and illustrated. In addition, 37 new species of Verrucosa from the Neotropical region are desc...

Eight new species of Eustala Simon, 1895 are described from southern Brazil. Eustala guarani n. sp., from Paraná and E. catarina n. sp., from Santa Catarina, are based on males and females. Six species are described from Rio Grande do Sul: E. ericae n. sp., E. cidae n. sp., E. lisei n. sp., E. cuia n. sp., E. farroupilha n. sp., based on males and females, and E. eldorado n. sp., based only on ...
متن کاملThe phylogenetic basis of sexual size dimorphism in orb-weaving spiders (Araneae, Orbiculariae).
Extreme sexual body size dimorphism (SSD), in which males are only a small fraction of the size of the females, occurs only in a few, mostly marine, taxonomic groups. Spiders are the only terrestrial group in which small males are relatively common, particularly among orb-weavers (especially in the families Tetragnathidae and Araneidae) and crab spiders (Thomisidae). We used a taxonomic sample ...
متن کاملRedescription of the orb-weaving spider Gasteracantha geminata (Fabricius, 1798) (Araneae, Araneidae).
The orb-weaving spider genus Gasteracantha Sundevall, 1833 (Araneidae) is notable for its pronounced sexual size dimorphism. Gasteracantha females are characterized by having a highly sclerotized "spiny" abdomen varying in relative size and number of spines, as well as abdomen dorsally and ventrally provided with varying numbers of sigillae (Cambridge 1879). The genus currently includes 70 desc...
